Nasreen, an outstanding Canadian citizen who has been an invaluable asset to our community since she migrated to her chosen new country in 1975. She has a master’s degree in library science, and she is certified parent education about early childhood growth and development
For the past 40 years Nasreen has helped with settlement for newcomers and has been a guiding light for immigrants, offering her expertise in navigating their life in their new country, including with our complex healthcare system.
Nasreen’s dedication to helping newcomers settle into their new lives is truly inspiring. She understands the challenges and hurdles that immigrants face when it comes to accessing healthcare, and she has made it her mission to lend a helping hand.
For 20 years she worked at University of Alberta Hospital as Multicultural Program Coordinator where she provided Cultural Competence in Healthcare training to the medical staff. It included examining “why people behave the way they do” pertaining to cultural knowledge, cultural perspectives on health and healing, cultural orientations and skills building to enhance their ability to work cross-culturally
Nasreen has benefited from working with Alberta Health Services and Multicultural Health Brokers Co-op, a not for profit community based organization. She has profound knowledge on both sides of the spectrum; the healthcare system and the knowledge of the unique needs of ethnocultural communities. That gives her an advantage of providing properly aligned support including placement and settlement. of new recruits
